Do you experience itching and do red bumps show on your face after shaving? Isn’t it annoying! It’s even more so when you have an added reasons to look good. There are several causes of itching and red bumps after shaving. Wondering where it goes wrong for you and how to fix it? The Beard Man shares his secrets with you.
Causes Of Itching and Lumps After Shaving
The itching you experience after shaving and the small bumps that appear are often caused by:
Shaving in the wrong direction: you shave the hair close to the root and there is more contact with the skin. This causes irritation and increases the risk of ingrown beard hairs which can be incredibly painful.
Dry razor shave: shaving with a traditional razor needs you to apply a little shaving gel, foam and water. This way, the blade will glide smoothly over the skin without any resistance.
Ingrown beard hair: these are hairs that grow back into the skin. This not only causes skin irritation, but also inflammation.
Tips For Preventing Skin Irritation After Shaving
Now that you know the causes, you should know as well what not to do to prevent red bumps, itching and other forms of irritation after shaving.
Don’t shave against the grain and use a little shaving gel when using a traditional razor. There is more that you can do. Here are some tips from The Beard Man:
- Do you like to shave dry? Wet the beard hairs with lukewarm water before shaving. This makes the beard hairs soft and opens the pores that makes them easier to shave off.
- Obviously, but oh so important: always use a clean razor or shaver by disinfecting it before use. Replace the razor after 1 -2 uses.
- Use a facial scrub: do this to remove dead skin cells. This will loosen stuck hairs. Never scrub too hard on your face and choose a scrub with small grains. Otherwise, damage and irritation to the underlying skin will ensue.
- Wash face with cold water: you do this after shaving to close the pores.
- Use beard oil: a good beard oil has a soothing effect on the skin, which is just what it needs.
Do You Often Experience Skin Irritation After Shaving?
One skin is different from the other. Even when following the tips above, you can still suffer from irritated skin after shaving and that is annoying to say the least!
In this case, you can choose to perform a stubble trim. Trimming stubble does not cause irritation for most men, but shaving does. Thus, you need a beard trimmer AND have to leave the razor alone.
